    Human interest Local Harrington resident, Ellen Evans, spent nearly a week volunteering as part of a 10-person crew on the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), which runs from Mexico to the Canadian border. This group met at Chelan, where the 10 volunteers took a two-hour boat ride (provided by the Forest Service) up Lake Chelan to Stehekin, a small town accessible only by boat, plane or trail.     Cruizin' Harrington Beautiful skies and weather prevailed for the 8th Annual Cruizin' Harrington event. Main Street (not Third St) was barricaded for vendors at its junction with Third Street, and traffic flowed slowly and smoothly throughout the day. There was a sufficient breeze to unfurl the flags that lined the streets and the cemetery.     History Pioneer days must have been terrifying when a fire was out of control. One of the earliest recorded fires in Harrington was that of a saloon building owned by F.B. Wright that was totally destroyed by fire on a wintry January night in 1893. The fire caught from a defective flue. The building was a wooden structure and burned rapidly. Two men were sleeping in the building, F.C. Lee and Harry Long, and they were nearly suffocated by the intense smoke. The only item salvaged from the burning building was the piano.
