The Tiger boys basketball team defeated their nemesis the Almira-Coulee-Hartline Warriors this past Saturday in Deer Park to clinch the championship in the district tournament. The time for off-road motorcycle racing in the Odessa area has arrived once again. Thankfully, the snow has departed for the most part, so riders will have mud and maybe soft ground to contend with this year rather than the more usual dust. Organizers from the Stumpjumpers Motorcycle Club have been in town since about mid-March to begin laying out the course and make contingency plans if the weather should continue to be winter-like. At Monday’s meeting of the town council, the nuisance ordinance passed last fall led to sometimes heated discussion among townspeople and council members. He joins Police Chief Brent Dell, as both men are getting acquainted with Odessa and its citizens. The Marlin and Odessa Gun Clubs celebrated the close of the Spokesman-Review Inland Empire Trapshooting contest that began January 6 by cementing their position at the top of Division I. Team competition Marlin-Odessa scored 799 out of a possible 800 points to win the title this year. Garfield-St. John came in second with 797 points. The Odessa Tigers took home a fourth-place trophy at the state B tournament in Spokane last weekend. Since starting for the Odessa High School boys basketball team as a freshman, Ryan Moffet, now a junior, has accumulated 2,000 points. Head basketball coach Larry Weber awarded Moffet a white basketball signed by all of his teammates to commemorate the event. Monday night’s meeting of the Odessa Town Council provided closure of a sort to the story of Odessa’s $12,000 per month contract with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for coverage while the search for a new police chief went forward. At the January 14 council meeting, new police chief Brent Dell took the oath of office from Mayor Bill Crossley. June Odessa agriculture science teacher HaLee Walter and school superintendent Dan Read applied for and have received a grant for $15,000 from the Washington FFA Foundation. The Foundation provides financial support for programs that recognize excellence in agricultural education and FFA leadership. Two Odessa boys earned medals for sportsmanship along the way, Jayd Jennings and Marcus King. Monday night's meeting of the Odessa Town Council included the swearing in of the town's new police chief Brent Dell by Mayor Bill Crossley. Their house and yard (front and back) on Sixth Avenue were filled with lights and figures that must have taken quite some time to install. he Odessa Chamber of Commerce adopted its budget for 2019 at its monthly meeting at Any Occasion Banquet Hall on December 11. Much of the budget remained the same or very similar to what was adopted for 2018, with cutbacks to only a few items in order to balance the new budget. The Odessa Junior Livestock 4-H Club is once again busily gearing up for Christmas Fest, which will be held in the Odessa Community Center next Wednesday, December 5. On November 15, twelve FFA members were able to compete in State Potato Judging and State Tractor Driving. This event is held annually at CBTech in Moses Lake. FFA members from all over Washington come to compete. The potato-judging teams spent many hours looking over potatoes and studying their workbooks. Saturday, November 17, was a busy day for many Odessa folks. The day started off for parents of school-aged children and other interested community members with a trip to Moses Lake's Lions Field, where the Tiger football team played in a quarter-final round against the Neah Bay Red Devils.
