Winter As told by Mrs. John F. Green, "The winter of 1887-1888 was one of the coldest on record, the mercury going 30 degrees below zero, but we were good sports even when our breath froze in icicles on our bedding. In May we moved to the Lake Creek Ranch. The trip seemed interminable. In the fall A.L. Smalley took up a homestead near us. A fairly good-sized crowd gathered in the Odessa Community Center Sunday to discuss the increasingly precarious financial situation of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce. Declining attendance at the Deutschesfest over the past several years has turned the community's once-largest money-maker into an also-ran now being outperformed by the hospitality tent sent up at the site of the Stumpjumper Motorcycle Club's Desert 100 endurance race in the spring. Odessa Chamber of Commerce...

To the Editor: Having feared death all my life, now that I am confronted with it daily, I no longer fear it. I fear only that the period leading up to my death will have been a waste of time, and the loved ones I will leave behind will be full of emptiness. Our days have been f...
