The Tiger boys basketball team defeated their nemesis the Almira-Coulee-Hartline Warriors this past Saturday in Deer Park to clinch the championship in the district tournament. It was a thoroughly exciting game and kept fans from both schools on the edge of their seats to the very end. On Wednesday Feb. 15, the Odessa Tiger ladies traveled to Deer Park to play the Wellpinit Redskins. The Tigers attacked the Redskins with full force, but it just wasn't quite enough to win. George and Dorothy (Hopp) Gies, both descendants of Odessa pioneer families, were longtime farmers in the Odessa and Columbia Basin areas, retiring in 1990. They were both born in Odessa, attended local schools and graduated from Odessa High School. They were active in their church and community. The Spokesman-Review’s Inland Northwest Trapshoot competition completed week 7 of competition on February 17. The Marlin and Odessa Gun Clubs participate in trap shooting from their respective locations but combine their scores to form one team that is entered into the competition. As of this week, Odessa club member Jon Fink reports that the Odessa/Marlin team still leads the competition with a score of 699 (out of 700), while their nearest competitor has 697. Crab Creek viewed from the Division St. footbridge shows that a layer of ice was not quite thick enough to hold the animals that attempted to cross it. Two sets of footprints lead almost all the way across before ending where the critters broke through. Fortunately for them, they almost to the opposite bank where the creek was shallow and presented no danger. The year 2018 was a good one for Lincoln County! We saw a spike in various sources of revenue that resulted in a higher than expected cash balance at the end of the year. Most of the increases were from sales tax, investment interest and jail revenue.
