By DYANNE DEERING The OHS Tigers attacked the Northport Mustangs with all of their might on Monday, March 25, winning 15 to 0 and setting the tone for what will hopefully be another winning Tiger season. In the first game of the double-header, the Tigers had 27 plate appearances, 17 at bats, 15 runs, 7 hits and 11 runs batted in. Dale Edward Jacobson died February 3, 2019 in Odessa at the age of 72. He was born June 23, 1946 in Everett, Wash. to Mel Jacobson and Margaret Davis. He resided in Everett until he entered the army right out of high school and spent 2 years in the armed service. After an honorable discharge he went to work for General Telephone until he retired in 1998. He moved to Quincy for a few years and then moved to Odessa in 2004 to live out the remainder of his days. Henry Peter Carstensen III (Pete), 67, passed away February 28, 2019, in Chandler, Ariz. Pete was born September 15, 1951, in Coulee Dam to Henry, Jr. and Yvaughnie Carstensen. He lived his entire life in Almira, on the north ridge. He graduated Almira High School in 1969. From there he attended both Spokane Falls Community College and Whitworth College, where he played football. As a "baby bull" he met Darcy Geib at a dance at the age of 14. This is the second year I’ve happily donated the balloons and my time to build an arch for Go! Odessa Recreation’s Third Annual Daddy-Daughter Dance. Since this year’s theme was the circus, Kaylene James, founder of Go! Odessa Recreation, had the idea of a yellow and white popcorn- inspired arch coming out of large popcorn bags. The State House of Representatives recently passed two bills sponsored by 13th District Rep. Tom Dent and one bill by newly appointed Rep. Alex Ybarra (who fills the post vacated by Matt Manweller). The time for off-road motorcycle racing in the Odessa area has arrived once again. Thankfully, the snow has departed for the most part, so riders will have mud and maybe soft ground to contend with this year rather than the more usual dust. At Monday’s meeting of the town council, the nuisance ordinance passed last fall led to sometimes heated discussion among townspeople and council members. The first buttercup of 2019 was a long time coming, but that harbinger of spring has now been found and submitted to The Record by young Simon King, son of Alex and Kaci King of Odessa and a Kindergarten student at P.C. The Odessa School District, in cooperation with Educational Service District #101, will be providing a Child Find Screening clinic on Thursday, April 18, 2019. The screening will be offered at no cost to children of concern aged three through five. By identifying children at an early age, we can better prepare for their future educational needs.
