By TERRIE SCHMIDT-CROSBY Organizers from the Stumpjumpers Motorcycle Club arrived in Odessa a couple of weeks ago. While they waited for the snow to disappear, they attended some Odessa events, including the Chamber of Commerce banquet. A week of warmer weather finally got rid of the snow and unfroze the ground enough so that marking of the courses for two weekends of motorcycle racing could begin. On March 29, the boys and girls high school track and field teams participated in the Connell Instant Invite at Connell High School. Odessa was the only 1B school present, in addition to 2B NW Christian (Colbert), 1A schools Connell, Medical Lake, Royal and Zillah and 2A schools Cheney, East Valley (Yakima) and Grandview. To the Editor. Concerning the fireworks of Friday, March 29, 2019 and Saturday, March 30, 2019. Friday night was bad for noise. Saturday sounded like a war zone. Two large blasts around 8 p.m. shook our house and rattled our windows, and we live across town from the race site, on the outskirts. No consideration was given to people who have PTSD or animals that may be affected by the noise. With Brexit in international news last week, the Washington capital had its own version with a "Lexit" rally in support of carving the state of Liberty out of the eastern side of the state. History Pioneer days must have been terrifying when a fire was out of control. One of the earliest recorded fires in Harrington was that of a saloon building owned by F.B. Wright that was totally destroyed by fire on a wintry January night in 1893. The fire caught from a defective flue. The building was a wooden structure and burned rapidly. Two men were sleeping in the building, F.C. Lee and Harry Long, and they were nearly suffocated by the intense smoke. The only item salvaged from the burning building was the piano. The... Full story
The Inland Northwest Rail Museum opens its third season at its Reardan location on Friday, April 5. From opening day on, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays until the season ends on December 15. Over the winter months, volunteers have rearranged and categorized many of the museum artifacts and memorabilia by railroad so visitors can better learn the history of railroads in the Inland Northwest.
