The firemen's barbecue last week on July 4 at Reiman Park in Odessa was very well attended. Rural fire chief Roger Sebesta kept a tally of the meals purchased as approximately 270 people filed past his cash drawer and on through the serving line. Firemen and their family members prepared pulled pork earlier in the week along with side dishes of homemade baked beans and potato salad. Arley Bischoff of Harrington passed away July 2, 2019 in Spokane at the age of 78. He was born March 8, 1941 in Odessa to Matt and Mildred Bischoff. He grew up in Wilson Creek and graduated from Wilson Creek High School in 1959. He later married Myrna Wraspir on October 17, 1959 in Odessa. He worked for the Great Northern/Burlington Northern Railroad for 30 years as a machine operator. Arley is survived by his wife of 60 years, Myrna, his son Dion (Marlene) Bischoff, daughter... It's just after 4:30 p.m. on June 27, and I am sitting in the crowded Phoenix airport with my mom Edith and daughter Kaitlyn, waiting for our 5:25 p.m. flight to Seattle to start boarding. Joyce Marie Praetorius, age 89, passed peacefully June 29, 2019, in Tucson, Ariz. Joyce was born December 7, l929 in Lincoln County, Wash. to Theodore John Marquardt and Isabella Belle Blair Robertson Marquardt. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1947 and was married June 22, 1947 to Paul (Bud) William Praetorius in Odessa. Joyce had lived near Odessa most of her life. HOHS The monthly meeting of the Harrington Opera House Society was opened by President Ellen Evans at 7 p.m. July 1, with Mark and Sheryl Stedman, Billie Herron, Ed and Bunny Haugan, Carol, Becky Moeller, Marge Womach and Kris Moritz present. Another 4th of July in Odessa, and I believe the people with illegal fireworks went all out. Now I know that some are unaware that fireworks that go “bang” or fly in the air and go “bang” are illegal, and there are others that do know it’s wrong. What I don’t know is whether anyone cares if it causes a problem for someone with PTSD or to the animals that shake with fright or run away. Town Council The town received one application for the Lodging Tax funds released for expenditure by the council. The application submitted by the Odessa Chamber of Commerce was approved unanimously.
