The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today the following changes in the fire danger rating. Effective 12:01 a.m. on July 15, 2015: * Fire danger has increased from ‘high’ to ‘very high’ in Spokane and northern Lincoln counties, and Fire Districts 1 and 2 in Stevens County. * Fire danger remains ‘very high’ in Okanogan and Ferry counties * Fire danger remains ‘high’ in Pend Oreille County and in Stevens County outside of Fire Districts 1 and 2. Due to severe drought throughout much of the eastern half of the state, emergency haying and grazing of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres has been authorized for many counties, including Lincoln County as of July 13, 2015. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency has authorized emergency haying and grazing for Lincoln County to provide livestock producers relief from drought or other natural disasters. On June 30, Odessa rural resident Larry D. Zagelow was injured in a single-car accident that took place 17 miles northwest of Odessa, according to the Washington State Patrol. The report by law enforcement stated that the vehicle was southbound on State Route 21 at milepost 73 when it drove off the right shoulder, rolling several times before coming to rest on the west side of roadway. The 2015 harvest has begun in earnest, two to three weeks ahead of schedule for most area farmers.
