Martha Janke passed away July 24, 2017 in Odessa at the age of 96. Martha was born on September 29, 1920 in Marsh, Montana to Gotthilf and Johanna Speck. She moved to Odessa at the age of 14 to live with her aunt and uncle, Jacob and Lydia Speck. She later met Daniel Janke and the two got married in 1939. Shirley Johnson of Odessa was awarded a "Quilt of Valor" by the Quilts of Valor Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is "to cover service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor." SUMAS, Wash. – Farmworkers and community members are demanding accountability from Sarbanand Farms in Whatcom County, after a worker died there over the weekend. Workers say Honesto Silva Ibarra complained to his employer about feeling ill before he collapsed in the fields last week. The Odessa Community Ministerial Association is planning a gathering in remembrance of Pastor Tim Hauge on Tuesday, August 15. The gathering will be in Reiman Park from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include a time for prayer, contemplation and sharing. Those who would like to attend are encouraged to “come and go as they please,” as it is not a set program. Odessa’s pastors will also be sharing some words. Near WILSON CREEK, Wash. (06AUGUST2017) – A 47-year-old Wilson Creek man has died in a one-vehicle collision north of Wilson Creek. Thomas Veenstra was driving a 2016 Dodge Challenger which crashed sometime Saturday late afternoon or evening on Road Q-Northeast south of Road 25-Northeast. He died at the scene.
