Kim Schmidt died Thursday, August 28, 2014, at his home in Odessa, surrounded by his family after an eight-month battle with cancer. He was 56 years old. Kim was born at Odessa Memorial Hospital December 20, 1957, to Bill and Wilma Schmidt of rural Odessa, the youngest of their four children. Loretta Gobert of Odessa, who took over Del’s Barber Shop after the death of Del Kirstein several years ago, has taken a position at Botan Hair Salon in Moses Lake. Although she had a loyal clientele in Odessa, the income was not quite enough to keep her from worrying about her bills every month. I was hospitalized for ten days in late July. In August, to rebuild my strength, I took my dog on increasingly long walks around town. We went virtually every day; the exercise was good for both Buster Brown and me. Buster is such a mongrel it’s hard to be sure what breeds have contributed to his makeup. He retrieves sticks thrown into the water and he looks like he has some Labrador in him, but he has the tail of a German Shepherd. His wide head makes me think of a pit bull....

Pamela “Pam” Renee Schooler, 56, died Saturday, August 23, 2014, in her son and daughter’s home in Moses Lake. Pam was born February 22, 1958, in Odessa to Jacoleah Janett Klaudt and Lavern Henry Schafer. The Harrington High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America will hold its annual Huff ‘N’ Puff Fun Run during the Harrington Fall Festival on Saturday, September 27.
