The Titan football team got their second win of the season last Friday afternoon, thrashing Selkirk by a score of 42-0. The game was played in Harrington and was one of the many events associated with the Harrington Fall Festival last weekend. The Odessa Parent-Teacher Organization bought T-shirts for all students in preschool through twelfth grade. They also bought shirts for all certified, classified staff and administrators. At registration, parents filled out shirt sizes for children, and two weeks later the shirts were delivered. Fundraising efforts continue for the San Felipe (Baja California, Mexico) mission trip scheduled to leave Odessa on November 5. Friday night was a great opportunity for a nostalgia trip to the 1960s. At a fundraising concert for the Harrington Opera House Society (HOHS), the Soda Creek 3 folk trio played to a good-sized, appreciative audience. Howard W. Kissler died September 12, 2011 in Lakewood, Wash., surrounded by his family. He was born in Odessa on November 20, 1950, the fourth of five boys, to Fred and Clara Kissler. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1970. He grew up on the farm, which raised grain, cattle and horses. He then worked on a ranch at Marlin, which he managed for several years. A $4.4 million federal grant focusing on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) was awarded to Big Bend Community College September 20. The 2011 junior-high football season is under way for the Odessa-Harrington Titans, with a large turnout of 22 seventh and eighth graders playing – 14 from Odessa and eight from Harrington. The Titans challenged Almira/Coulee-Hartline in the home opener and lost, 0-38. Caleb Behrens led the Titan team in tackles. The Booster Club will hold a dinner and auction on October 8, 2011. Happy hour starts at 5:30 with dinner at 6 p.m. Dinner will include steak grilled on an outdoor grill by Riders Club members, and music will be provided by Larry Moffet and Jeff Wehr.
