    The first snowfall of the winter of 2016/2017 came Monday evening and overnight to the Odessa area. Forecasts now predict a bit more snow over the weekend and temperatures expected to drop below zero at night.     SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Regional Health District is reporting that a Spokane County child, a male under the age of 10, has acute flaccid myelitis. The diagnosis was confirmed by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the only organization equipped to rule in or rule out the disorder. It is a rare syndrome with no specific cause, as is the case with the report in Spokane County. It is not contagious. The condition affects the nervous system, specifically the spinal cord.     Five girl scouts from Odessa, Hannah Sheldon, Alyssa Iverson, Chloe Winkler, Jocelyn Zigan and Mackenzie Lutz, are planning a trip to Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2017. They will be accompanied by Michele Dowlen of Wilbur and Lyndsay Reyes and Sherri Frederick, both of Odessa.     John Gahringer, Jr. went home to be with the Lord early in the morning of October 25, 2016. John was born July 5, 1924 in Oak Park, Ill., a suburb of Chicago, to John and Alice Barclay Gahringer.
