    Laura Estes|Updated Dec 29, 2016

Snow on the ground, sledding parties and Christmas caroling call for warming up with hot chocolate and sweet cookies. Charlene Kagele brought glazed carrot cookies to a recent event and I was asked to get the recipe. Charlene said she got the recipe from me, and I think this is the correct one. It comes from Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book, 1979 edition. Golden Carrot Cookies 1 cup shortening, or (part butter or margarine) 3/4 cup granulated sugar 2 eggs 1 cup mashed cooked carrots...

It was an opportunity to expose the members to another kind of agricultural career. All members helped bone-out, grind and wrap the beef. They also learned where the different cuts of meat are located on the animal. For some, this was a totally new adventure, while others were old hands at it. At the end of this...

  • Pastors' Corner

Rev. Mark Squire, Zion Emmanuel Lutheran Church|Updated Dec 15, 2016

The past week, our country lost an icon. Unless you live in Ohio, where he was a senator, you probably knew John Glenn as the first American to orbit the earth. In 1998, he also became the oldest person ever to travel into space. The death of this famous astronaut brings our imaginations back to the great space race of the 1950s and 60s. Many children grew up wanting to be astronauts - to blast off into space, to orbit the earth, even to walk on the moon. However, the country...

Editor's note: Titan football head coach Jeff Nelson submitted his thoughts and perceptions of the December 3 championship game in the Tacoma Dome. See last week's paper for the game coverage article. Overall, we got off to a really poor start. I think some our players were a little overwhelmed by playing in the Tacoma Dome and playing for a state championship.
