OMHC gets pediatric emergency equipment

Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center has recently been a recipient of Broselow Pediatric Emergency equipment. This new equipment became available through a grant that the East Region Emergency Medical System (EMS) received from the Washington State Department of Health. The goal of the EMS for Children State Partnership Program is to assist states in expanding and improving their capacity to reduce pediatric emergencies.

The color-coded system is used during pediatric emergencies to quickly estimate a child's weight, select the correct size of emergency equipment and determine weight-based drug dosages. In the rural setting, pediatric emergencies occur infrequently and these tools will help the clinician quickly assess patients. Furthermore, it has the potential to improve patient outcomes.

The emergency department received two Broselow Pediatric emergency tapes, and color-coded procedural modules. These will provide all the necessary equipment to care for pediatric patients ranging from newborn to the age of 12. The new ambulance will also carry the color-coded system. The color-coded pediatric system has become an industry standard in pediatric emergency care.
