Love - The Odessa Record "By Your Relative"

Odessa Record subscriber Larry Fisher of Spokane continues his series of articles on the history of the Batum/Lauer area (where his wife, the former Joyce Kiesz, grew up.)

Dream 2 (Continuation):

Raugust, Rudolph, (b. 9/30/1896, Eigenheim, Bessarabia, Russia. d. 7/28/1992). Was a son of Jacob Raugust Sr. – Rudolph served in the U.S. Army during WWI. When he returned from the service he married Margaret Reimann, and moved to Monroe, Washington, where he was employed at a sawmill. He also work for a time at the Carnation Co. They also lived briefly at Dryden. Returning to the Odessa area in 1929, they farmed and later purchased a farm near Lauer, which they will operate until 1950.

Roloff, Daniel G., (b. 8/10/1886, Kulm, Russia. d. 1/29/1969). Wife: Elizabeth Albright. Father: Carl Roloff. Mother: Juliana Miller. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 6 with his parents. The family settled near Minot, North Dakota, for a two-year period after which they moved to the Odessa area and settled on the family homestead south of here. On 3/10/1907 he and Elizabeth Albrecht were united in marriage. At this time they settled on the family farm, which they will operate for 55 years. In 1961 they will retire. During his life he will enjoy several hobbies with special interest in flowers, especially wild flowers, trees and birds.

Sackmann, Fred. (b. 4/2/1888, Ackermann, Russia. d. 12/20/1951). Mother: Dorthy Bausch. Father: Christoff Sackmann. Fred came to America at the age of 17 and located at Lind. On 12/1/1912, he married Amelia Albrecht, and they made their home in the Odessa area.

Sackmann, Martin, (b. About 1884, Russia. d. 1947). Martin will live in the Adams County farm region south of Odessa for 42 years and then retire to make his home at Ritzville.

Schaal, Andreas "Andrew," (b. 1885. d. 1961). Andrew lived in the Odessa area from about 1918 to 1932, then moved to the Lind area. Later, he will retire and live in Spokane.

Schafer, George F., (b. 7/25/1873, Russia. d. 11/18/1930). Father: Fulton Schafer born Russia. Mother: Lizzie Rider born Russia.
