Editor's note: Most items in this section reflect the starting point for response by local police and emergency agencies. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.
Aug. 22: A deputy responded to a report that a front left wheel came off a vehicle, blocking the southbound lane of SR 231 near Broadway Avenue in Reardan.
The company working on electrical lines along Brown Road reported a theft.
Lincoln Hospital requested a deputy come to investigate a theft that occurred there.
When a woman didn't receive a motor home she expected from a divorce settlement, she reported it as stolen and was advised by dispatchers to take the matter to court.
Dispatchers took a report of juvenile problems in the 400 block of Sinclair Street in Davenport.
A horse seen chained to a vehicle on property along Spring Canyon Road North prompted a caller to report possible animal abuse. A responding deputy determined the horse was in good shape.
A bicycle was seen in Cottonwood Creek near Davenport's skate park.
A man reported the theft of torching equipment valued at about $750 from property on Hayden Road.
A collision involving a car and deer took place on SR 25 about 12 miles north of Davenport.
Odessa Police investigated a possible violation of a non-contact order involving a divorced couple.
Aug. 23: A caller reported that someone was attempting to transport 13 goats from Stockland Livestock Exchange in Davenport in a pickup truck without rails. The animals were secured with twine around their necks. When the truck left the parking lot, its tailgate fell open. A deputy caught up with it on Coyote Heights Road.
A deputy determined that three horses a caller had observed without water, shade or feed on SR 2 and Govan Road actually weren't being abused, since green pasture and an underground spring were nearby.
Odessa firefighters responded to a blaze south of Odessa near Hopp Road.
Dispatchers noted a couple of suspicious vehicle reports in the 1000 block of Main Street in Davenport and in the 35000 block of SR 25 N. In the first, a bearded man wearing a hat and smoking a cigarette appeared to be taking photos. In the latter, the vehicle turned out to be a delivery truck and its driver was having trouble finding a location.
A resident of the 1300 block of Logan Street in Davenport told dispatchers he believed his neighbor was harassing him even though the latter was sitting silently outside an apartment, but “staring” at the caller and his friends.
Aug. 24: Brakes on a combine started a fire in a field near Kupers Road. Harrington firefighters were dispatched to handle the blaze, which at one point appeared to threaten a nearby harvest crew.
Davenport city staff reported having to deal with an upset man who believes the municipal water supply is poisoned and that the public library’s computer system was being manipulated, slowing the process of his sending an email. He was advised to wait for a deputy after telling city staff “not to be surprised if someone came in and killed them” and that Davenport “was going to have an uprising.”
A caller advised that a woman was using her dead husband's disabled parking permit for a couple of years in Davenport.
Worried he might have to “scrape someone off the street,” a caller reported wheat trucks driving in the 900 block of Main Street in Davenport could be hazardous to “a lot of dumb kids” in the neighborhood. A deputy obtained pledges from local elevators that drivers would be reminded to avoid city streets.
A group of juveniles appeared to be trying to steal something from a yard in the 800 block of Merriam Street in Davenport.
A Wilbur woman told police of a call from a man with a Middle Eastern accent who requested her copier model number at work so an update and manual could be sent to her. When she said she'd call in if she needed anything, the man told her to “keep your mouth shut” before the call ended.
Aug. 25: A collision involving a vehicle and deer took place on SR 25 about seven miles north of Davenport.
A woman reported two tires on the driver's side of her car had been slashed while parked in the 700 block of First Street in Davenport.
Discussion on Facebook about a horse somewhere along SR 2 that was out in the hot sun without shelter produced a call to dispatchers.
A Davenport area resident reported that without his authorization, someone opened bank and credit card accounts in his name and Social Security number.
A woman reported unwanted solicitors trying to sell books in the 600 block of Merriam Street in Davenport and expressed concern that homes in the neighborhood were being cased.
Wilbur Police responded to a report of flashlights being directed at an empty residence from a vehicle being driven in the vicinity of Trinity and Bell streets. Investigation revealed that the owners are remodeling the home and that “all is okay.”
Aug. 26: Rolls of carpet were reported in the roadway on SR 2 near Wilbur, but responding officers found nothing.
Lincoln County Fair personnel reported vehicles parked in disabled parking areas at the fairgrounds without appropriate authorization.
A bicyclist was observed crossing into motorized traffic on SR 28 about five miles south of Davenport.
Deputies learned of the possible assault of a woman and her baby in the Almira area.
A miniature horse and white mare were reported missing from property in the 33000 block of Manke Road.
A woman reported that she since she gave him a $3,000 Visa card on Aug. 23, she hadn't seen a man or the supplies he was supposed to buy for work on a patio and deck in the 100 block of North Sixth Avenue in Almira.
A Tramm Road resident reported that a yard sale sign had been taken from her property.
A Ford Bronco and a motorcycle lost side mirrors in a collision on Devils Gap Road north of Reardan. The Bronco left the scene in what deputies are investigating as a hit and run accident.
A collision involving a vehicle and deer took place in the 42000 block of Miles Creston Road.
A suspicious vehicle was seen on Lentz Road between Schorzman and Janke roads, stopping at an abandoned house, possibly firing gunshots and traveling in the fields
Aug. 27: After doing a belly flop from about 60 feet at Porcupine Bay, an individual was seen floating face down, prompting a call from National Park Service rangers for a MedStar air ambulance to respond. When the person returned to consciousness, the request for assistance was withdrawn and treatment was deemed unnecessary.
A Davenport man reported the theft of a revolver from a residence in the 700 block of Thirteenth Street during the past two weeks, but the caller's wife believes it may have been gone for about two years.
Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of Jefferson and Third streets in Davenport.
Outdoor lights valued at about $40 were reported stolen from a residence in the 700 block of Eighth Street in Davenport.
Aug. 28: A group of about six noisy campers prompted a call from another at Spring Canyon campground who requested assistance in getting them to settle down.
A vehicle suspected of being operated by a drunken driver was spotted on Waukon Road and later believed to have hit a guardrail on SR 2 near Deep Creek in Spokane County.
An oil spill measured at two quarts was reported at the Fort Spokane boat launch.
After his rescue, Lincoln Hospital treated a 7-year-old boy whose foot had gotten caught in barbed wire, causing him to become stuck under the Porcupine Bay swim dock.
A man became concerned when his wife, whom he had dropped off at The Viking in Sprague earlier in the day, didn't return home. A Washington State Patrol trooper encountered the woman barefoot and wearing a robe at the I-90 rest area and drove her to The Viking, where she said she had a ride coming. Although she was no longer there, the woman was eventually found safe and with friends.
A Sprague business operator complained that vehicles parked in front of a commercial lot in the 200 block of B Street were hurting his business. He was directed to city officials.
Deputies warned a driver of a small red truck about what appeared to be road rage, with items being thrown at passing cars, on SR 2 near Zeimer Road.
A man reported that a 1975 GMC flatbed work truck was missing from where it had been parked in the 16000 block of Ramsey Road East. He later advised he found the truck "just down the road," but has no idea how it got there.
