Soap Lake, Ephrata and Grant County firefighters work to put out a stucture fire in the downtown business district of Soap Lake early last Thursday morning.
Grant County Emergency Management reported that firefighters averted disaster last Thursday, saving part of Soap Lake’s downtown business district during a fire in a business storefront.
Around 7:30 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of Main Avenue East, along one of Soap Lake’s main thoroughfares. The occupant of an apartment in the rear of the burning building called 9-1-1 to report smoke coming from the front of the building. The fire was also reported by Soap Lake Police Chief Jim Dorris who saw the smoke while on routine patrol.
