Titans overpower Hornets in Inchelium October 14

The Odessa-Harrington Titans traveled to Inchelium to face the Hornets in a gritty, hard-hitting affair last Friday. The Titans scored early and often, jumping to a 24-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. After a 30-0 halftime lead, the Titans would survive a comeback attempt by the Hornets, to reach a score of 66-28 at game’s end. The Titans’ Brett Larmer (12), carried the rock 12 times for 94 yards, a stunning 7.8 yards per carry, along with a rushing touchdown. He accounted for 143 yards of total offense, also hauling in a 49-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter of Friday’s action.

Jared King (7), the Titans’ starting quarterback, is awarded my game ball of the week once again for his outstanding performance, completing 5 of his 7 passes for 233 yards and 3 touchdowns. King’s three touchdown scores were his three longest completions of the night. His longest was a 64-yard score to Justin Hunt (24) in the third quarter and a pair of scores in the first quarter, 59 yards to Cade Weber (3) and 49 yards to Brett Larmer (12), respectively.

As good as King was in the passing game, he was even better in the ground game. King ran for 119 yards on only 8 carries, nearly doubling Larmer’s yards per carry (14.8 to 7.8), and finding paydirt 4 more times! Yes, that’s 4 rushing touchdowns. His scoring runs covered 53, 32, 23 and 7 yards of ground. To sum up King’s game-ball-worthy performance, he amassed 352 yards of total offense and 7 touchdowns along with a team-high 9 tackles on defense. Of course, King wasn’t the only player who played great football. Markus Smith (8) ran for over 50 yards and made 7.5 tackles, 6 of them solo. Odessa juniors Hunt and Weber hauled in long touchdown passes for scores, and Sam Schafer (16) recorded 3.5 tackles and a clutch interception late in the game.

As good as we were, we played like a different team in the second half. In the first half of play, we outscored the Hornets 30-0. In the second half, they played much better, scoring 28 points, all via the run, compared to our 36 second-half points.

The 66-28 blowout of the Hornets only reminds us that the Titans are improving, and every team playing us needs to look out for the Odessa-Harrington Titans.
