"Scouting for Food" helps stock Odessa's Food Bank

The Odessa Cub Scouts of Pack #784 will once again be “Scouting for Food” this year. Over the past several years, the Cub Scouts have collected hundreds of pounds worth of food. This special food drive is used to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for a number of families in Odessa served by the Odessa Food Bank.

This past Saturday, the Cub Scouts distributed plastic bags to every household in Odessa. This coming Saturday, November 12, at 10 a.m. the scouts will pick the bags up from the front porches of all the homes where bags were left. All bags should be picked up by noon, so there is no need to worry about anything freezing. There will also be a designated grocery cart at Odessa Foods this week up until Saturday, November 12, for collecting food donations. For more information, please contact Peggy DeWulf at 982-2281.

Some of the items needed by the Food Bank are: Turkey or cash donations for purchasing turkeys, stuffing mix, potatoes, sweet potatoes/yams, pumpkin, potato mixes, shortening, vegetable oil, salt, pepper, condiments, crackers, canned milk, cereal, canned vegetables and fruit, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, chili, pork and beans, noodles, rice, macaroni and cheese, tuna helper, Jell-O, pudding mixes, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, canned meats, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, toilet paper, dish soap, laundry soap, zip lock bags, paper towels, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
