Donald D. Hopkins died December 14, 2011, in Davenport. His home was in Creston. He was 65 years old.
He was born June 30, 1946, in Peoria, Okla. to Jasper “Jack” and Maudie (Carver) Hopkins. He married Colleen Lanway on July 2, 1982 in Wilbur.
Don is survived by his wife, Colleen, at the home; two sons R.J. Hopkins of Spokane and Eric Hopkins of Creston; a daughter Dawn Marie Hopkins; two brothers Gene Eby (and Audrey) of Colbert and Jim Hopkins of Milton Freewater, Ore .; two sisters Dee Nelson of Spokane Valley and Pat Isley (and Don) of Milton-Freewater, Ore .; sister-in-law Arlene Hopkins of Waitsburg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Jack, Chuck and Pete, and his sister Susie.
Don was employed by the Washington State Department of Transportation for 32 years, serving the Davenport, Wilbur, Odessa and Ritzville areas. He was a former city council member, served on the Creston Planning Commission, member for the Creston Volunteer Fire Department, where he was treasurer and secretary for several years, and a U.S. Army veteran. Don enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Creston Christian Church with Pastor Guy Schmielau officiating. The family suggests memorials be made to the Creston Fire Department.
