Boys basketball team beats Columbia, loses to VC, ACH

O-H vs. Columbia (Hunters)

The team from Columbia High School in Hunters just couldn’t catch a break Tuesday, January 3 in Harrington. Even when they were left with a wide-open shot, the ball simply would not drop into the basket.

Meanwhile, the Odessa-Harrington boys showed some of the best passing they have exhibited to date, finding the open man who, more often than not, got the two- or three-pointer.

Cade Weber led the Titans with 17, followed by Jared King with 12. Markus Smith and Justin Hunt had 10 each, Stetson Sanford 8, Jacob DeWulf and Nick Tebow 6 each, Brett Larmer 4, Justin Hauge 3, Madison Charlton 0.

On defense, King led the Titans with 7 rebounds. Offensively, Sanford contributed 9 assists.

Boys JV

The boys junior varsity game was a close contest all the way through, and coach Ken Scherr said he was pleased that the team remained so competitive. The final score was VC 50 and O-H 42.

O-H vs. Valley Christian

Valley Christian of Spokane Valley played a highly competitive game but one that apparently was not nearly perfect enough for their coach. The Friday night crowd in Harrington murmured their discontent when the VC coach, obviously very angry, got a bit physical with one of his own players. The moment passed and play resumed, but things were, thankfully, a bit more subdued after that incident.

VC won the game, 67-56, but the Titans had held the score within the five-point range for almost the entire game.

The taller Panthers kept the game out of reach, however. The two shortest players on the varsity team were 5’10” and were the only players under six feet tall. The tallest were 6’7” and 6’5”.

Height wasn’t the only factor, however, as Harrington’s Stetson Sanford led the Titan scoring with 19 points and at 5’8” was the shortest player on either team. Other
