VFW and Ladies' Auxiliary essay contest results announced

The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7395 met January 26. Just prior to the meeting, a drawing was held as the culmination of a recent fundraising event.

An ecru afghan made by Daisy Hardung was won by Angela Griffith of Moses Lake. A colorful afghan was won by Peg Patrick of Davenport. A toy tractor from Odessa Trading Company was won by Sally Siegel of Odessa, and a God Bless America eagle made by Mike Kuest was won by Mary Dewey.

The Auxiliary would like to thank everyone for supporting their project.

Saturday, January 28, VFW Post and Auxiliary hosted the District 13 luncheon for our district youth contest winners. The district youth essay winners for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade youth essay winners were:

3rd grade - no entry.

4th grade - Ireland Luiten, Odessa, 1st place.

5th grade - Emily King, Odessa, 1st place; Hayley Bogart, Ritzville, 2nd place.

The winners for the 6th, 7th and 8th grade Patriot’s Pen contest were:

6th grade - Tony Martinez, Quincy, 1st place; Rachel Schell, Ritzville, 2nd place.

7th grade - Erica Leffel, Ritzville, 1st place.

8th grade - Holly Nygren, Ritzville, 1st place. Holly’s essay also placed third in the statewide competition.

The high school Voice of Democracy winner was Charli Moffet of Odessa.

Thank you to all of the students and their families. The VFW and Ladies’ Auxiliary would like to remind everyone that these contests are open to all students whether they are in public school, private school or home school.

As soon as it can be arranged, VFW and Auxiliary members will visit the schools to award prizes to the winners.
