Philipp and Marion Graedel of Burgdorf, Switzerland, at the Odessa museum Monday, are holding the Bible and a photo of Philipp's ancestor, Rev. Gottfried Graedel, who founded several of Odessa's first churches.
The wonders of the computer age! Without them, visitors to Odessa this week from Switzerland would likely never have known what happened to a long-lost relative who left his Swiss homeland before the turn of the last century to become a circuit-riding minister for several churches in the Pacific Northwest.
Philipp and Marion Graedel are from Burgdorf, a city of more than 15,000 inhabitants not far from the capital of Switzerland, Bern. Burgdorf is located in the valley carved by the Emme River (of Emmentaler cheese fame).
