Odessa students earn top places at state science fair

Two students from the OHS Science Department (Advanced Science Research) presented March 31, 2012 in Bremerton, WA at the annual Washington State Science and Engineering Fair. Kira Powell earned fist place in Botany for her project, “The Development of a Novel Sodium Polyacrylate Treatment,” while Griffey Powell received second place in Environmental Sciences with his project, "The Impact of Agriculture on Chemical Content of the Soil in an Ephemeral Stream."

These OHS students presented their projects and revealed excellent use of the scientific method. “I am very proud of the amount of time, effort, and commitment each of these students dedicated to the science department this year,” says Odessa science educator Jeffery Wehr. “As usual, their hard work once again paid off very well!” The ASR team now prepares for the International Science and Engineering Fair in Pittsburgh, Penn., the International Sustainability for Engineering, Energy, and Environmental Project in Houston, Texas, and the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium in Bethesda, Md., all in May!
