Kendall Todd was selected as Miss Odessa for 2012 at the Miss Odessa Pageant held last week Monday, April 16, at the Christ Lutheran Church. Her princesses are Melani Fehrer and Koralynne Kuch. All three girls are juniors at Odessa High School.
Each of the girls was interviewed by the judges during the first 20 minutes, while guests were arriving and greeting one another. Ellen Holman, the emcee for the event, thanked everyone for coming and introduced the judges, two ladies from Ritzville and the contestants.
First, the girls had to answer an impromptu question. One at a time, the girls walked to the podium while Holman pulled out a folded piece of paper bearing their question. Following the impromptu questions, the girls were asked to read their essays on “What Miss Odessa Means to Me.”
The judges left to deliberate, returning about 15 minutes later with an envelope containing the name of the winner and the places of the two remaining contestants.
Prior to the crowning of Miss Odessa, Holman presented an academic excellence award to Kendall Todd. Each girl also received a bouquet and crown.
The girls will now spend time working on decorating the Odessa float and preparing for several parades that they will attend over the next few months to promote the Odessa Deutschesfest.
