Knowledge Bowl team going to nationals in New Orleans

Odessa’s Knowledge Bowl team received an invitation last week to the National Academic Competition. With their second-place finish in state competition, they qualified to be among other top academic teams in the nation.

There are three venues and dates for these competitions. The first will be in New Orleans at the end of May, and this is where Odessa’s team will head.

The second and third venues are in Washington, D.C. and Chicago the following weekends, respectfully.

Representing Odessa will be seniors Kira Powell, Austin Schmierer and Hailey Williams; junior Kendall Todd and sophomores Griffey Powell and Thorsen Wehr.

The team is holding several fundraisers to help pay for the trip, starting this Saturday, with a car wash during Spring Fling at the Bank of America parking lot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is by donation.

They are also selling 50/50 raffle tickets. The top raffle prize is for half the money pot collected. This week, they will also be serving cookies for donations during the student-led conferences Thursday and Friday.

The members are also now taking orders for Papa Murphy Pizzas to be delivered Friday, May 4. Contact any Knowledge Bowl team members to place an order. Deliveries will be made in town only. Country folk are asked to please provide a dropoff address within the town limits.
