The Odessa-Harrington Titans Jr. High track team had a successful meet on Monday, April 30, at Wilbur. A total of nine team participated: Davenport, Liberty, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague, Mary Walker, Odessa-Harrington, Reardan, Valley Christain, Wellpinit, and Wilbur-Creston.
The 7th grade girls from O-H finished seventh with 25 points. Wilbur won with 186 points and Reardan was second with 77 points. The Titans were led by Keia Baird, who earned 10 points with a fourth-place finish in the shot put, a sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, and eighth places in the long jump and 100-meter dash. Rebecca Fortner also added 10 points with fourth place finishes in both the high jump and javelin. Zoe Clark added 5 points with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump.
The 7th-grade Titan boys earned first place with a grand total of 168 points. Wilbur-Creston finished second with 86 points, just ahead of Reardan in third with 84 points. The Titans had a strong team effort, with several players contributing significant points. Cole Kissler scored 34 points with a first in the 800-meter run and second-place finishes in the triple jump, 1600-meter run and 100-meter hurdles.
Colby Sooy scored 20 points, placing first in the shot put, second in discus and seventh in the 100-meter run. Aaron Giles scored 28 points with second-place finishes in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the long jump. He also placed fifth in the javelin. George Butrick also scored 28 points, with a first-place finish in the 1600-meter run, second in the javelin, third in the 100-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash.
Nathan Lish scored 18 points before withdrawing from his final two events because of an injury. He took first in the 100-meter dash and second in the 400-meter run. Other notables included James Mann who finish fourth in the shot put and seventh in the 100-meter hurdles.
The 8th grade girls team managed to earn second place with 87 points. Reardan was first with 109 points and Wilbur-Creston third with 63 points.
Lanessa Simon led the Titans with 26 points, with a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles and second-place finishes in the triple jump and the 200-meter dash. AnnaRenee Bockman scored 18 points, placing second in the discus and fourth in both the javelin and shot put. Alexis Burdick scored 15 points with a third-place finish in the 1600-meter run, fourth in the high jump and fifth in the 800-meter run. Katie Dewulf scored 13 points with a second-place finish in the long jump and third in the triple jump.
The 8th-grade boys barely edged out Lind-Ritzville/Sprague for second place. Reardan finished first with 152 points, the Titans second with 69 points and Lind-Ritzville-Sprague third with 68 points.
The Titans were led by Dillon Shockley who earned 21 points with a first-place finish in the long jump, third in the javelin and fourth in the high jump. Caleb McNeil added 16 points with a third place in the 1600-meter run and fourth place finishes in the 100-meter dash and the 800-meter run.
Jacob Montgomery scored 10 points with fifth-place finishes in the shot put and discus and seventh in the triple jump. Joey Buell added four points with seventh-place finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles and the javelin. Derek Montgomery scored five points with a sixth-place in the shot put, seventh in the triple jump and an eighth in the discus.
Tennis
In girls tennis on May 1, 2012, Reardan defeated the Titans 5-0.
In #1 girls singles, Lauren Schulz defeated Cydnee Kieffer 6-2, 6-1 and in #2GS Trayann Kriste defeated Kaeli Shockley 6-0, 6-2. The #3GS match saw Rachel Hansen defeat Dada Melisklova 6-2, 7-5.
In the #1 doubles match, Peri Hall and Lexi Webster defeated Mayumi Matsuzoe and Pilly Pap 6-0,6-1. In #2 doubles, Melissa Macabea and Maykala McCoy defeated Kyla Simpson and Laura Kinny 6-4,7-6.
District baseball playoffs
The Titan baseball team finished the regular season 10-0 in league play and advances to District play as the #1 seed from the South Division. The Titans thus will host the first round of District play as follows:
Friday, May 11, in Odessa
Game 1 – 1 p.m., Wilbur-Creston (South #3) vs. Selkirk (North #2); loser out.
Game 2 – follows game 1, with game 1 winner playing Odessa-Harrington
The winner of game 2 plays in game #6 at 1 p.m. Monday, May 14, at University High School in Spokane.
The loser plays in game #5 at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 14, also at University HS in Spokane.
These are District games and admission will be charged: $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens/students.
Golf
The top 6 Odessa-Harrington boys and girls played 18 holes at Dominion Meadows in Colville Tuesday, May 1. Coach Sam Read reported that it was a cold blustery day with intermittent rain and hail.
Kira Powell was once again the girls medalist, with a score of 79. Boys medalist was Weitze of Colfax, who shot 77.
Wilbur-Creston was the only girls team with enough members for a team score, and finished with 547. Colfax took the boys team competition, with 431, followed by OHS with 508, Cusick with 512, Kettle Falls with 517, Lind/Ritzville/Sprague with 525, Wilbur-Creston with 528 and Inchelium with 552.
Individual scores for the Titans were Madison Charlton 98, Ricky Hedreen 100, Joe Cronrath 102, Zack Schaal 102, Griffey Powell 106 and Chris Hanson 108. Hailey Williams finished with 110.
Sub-district golf
The O-H Titan boys and girls both came in second at the subdistrict tournament held in Liberty Lake at the Meadowwood Golf Course (boys) and the Liberty Lake Golf Course (girls) Monday, May 7.
The Colfax team took the top spot for the boys, with three Colfax players taking first, second and third in the tournament. The Wilbur-Creston girls took first place.
Harrington senior Chris Hansen was the top Titan, coming in seventh after shooting an 89. Madison Charlton (H) at 11th, Griffey Powell (O) 12th, Zack Schaal (O) 14th, Joe Cronrath (H) 25th and Ricky Hedreen (H) in a three-way tie for 28th will move on to District play next Monday, May 14, again playing at the Meadowwood course.
Odessa’s Kira Powell won the girls’ tournament with a score of 80, with her nearest competitor 18 strokes behind. Two other O-H girls qualifed for district play, Hailey Williams shooting a 117 was 8th and eighth-grader Isabelle Phillips was 15th with a score of 141. The girls will also play the district tournament Monday, May 14, at Liberty Lake.
Track & Field
At the District 7 meet held Tuesday, May 1, in Odessa, the O-H boys placed sixth and the girls placed third against five other teams.

In individual scoring, taking ninth in the 100 meters was Garret Braun in 13.86, who then finished sixth in the 200 meters in 28.03.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Austin Schmierer was third in 51.60.
The 4x400 relay had the team of Jacob Dewulf, Ryan Greenwalt, Austin Schmierer and Garret Braun placing third in a time of 4:25.48.
In the javelin, Dewulf was fourth with a throw of 96’1”, Braun eighth with 88’09” and Greenwalt ninth with 86’08”.
Schmierer was fourth in the pole vault at 8’06.00”, and DeWulf took second in the triple jump at 36’10.00”.
For the girls, Jordyn Tanke took first place in both the 100 meters and 200 meters in times of 14.48 and 30.64, respectively. Carley Williams came in fifth in the 100 meters in a time of 16.38.
Melani Fehrer ran the 400 meters in a time 1:24.08 and came in sixth.
In the 4x100 relay, the Titans got another first-place finish from the team of Koralynne Kuch, Tanke, Williams and Hannah Schmidt in 58.89.
A different O-H team took first in the 4x200 relay, with Chelsea Fisher, Tanke, Kuch and Schmidt finishing in 2:00.86.
In the shot put, Fisher was third at 25’07” and Fehrer was fourth at 22’08”.
In the javelin, Fisher was fourth at 74’06” and Fehrer sixth at 47’05”.
Three Titans placed in the long jump. Schmidt was fourth at 12’09.5”, Williams sixth at 12’05” and Kuch eighth at 12’00.50”.
In the triple jump, it was Fisher fifth at 27’05.5”, Kuch sixth at 27’02.75” and Schmidt eighth at 26’02.25”.
