The Odessa Friends of the Library are inviting families to meet in Reiman Park Monday, July 23, at 6 p.m. The Friends will pass out reading certificates and prizes and celebrate with the participants in the culmination of the six-week reading program.
Children are invited to bring a book, a blaknet, a parent or grandparent and enjoy the summer evening together. It is a family night, and all are invited to participate.
Cassie Nixon, president of the Friends group, and Jen Samuels have planned and implemented the Summer Reading program, offering six weeks of reading fun, crafts and activities to children from pre-K to fourth grade.
Children have created their own dream jars, decorated cookies and beat on a pinata until it burst, following the theme of each days' reading material. They have come in their pajamas, dressed up in costumes representing what they want to be when they grow up and created pirate's eye patches.
