Ken Schutz takes statewide principal leadership role

Ken Schutz, principal of Odessa K-12 Schools (Odessa School District), was selected as the president-elect of the Washington Association of Secondary School Principals (WASSP). Schutz will serve as president-elect for the 2012-13 school year, president for the 2013-14 school year and past-president in 2014-15.

WASSP is a 33-member component board of AWSP consisting of practicing high school principals and assistant principals which represents more than 900 school principals from around the state. The board was created to promote the improvement and advancement of education and public interest in schools. The board believes the mission of every school is the growth and development of youth through the growth and development of its staff.

“It is truly an honor to represent my peers throughout the state of Washington and to promote the mission of our association. I have invested my life in education, developing leadership in myself and others,” said Schutz. “I look forward to giving back to the community of principals I represent and helping our organization communicate those issues principals feel are important to the students of Washington State.”

“I would like to thank Superintendent Suellen White, our School Board of Directors, and all my staff for their support in this endeavor. This is truly a professional growth opportunity that I could not pass up and look forward to this journey with great passion.”

The Association of Washington School Principals is a professional association serving principals, assistant principals and principals in training. Formed in 1972, the association now includes more than 3,400 members from public and private elementary, middle and high schools statewide. It is governed by a board of practicing principals drawn from three grade-specific boards representing the elementary, middle and high school levels.
