Anyone else feeling overwhelmed?
I feel funny today.
By that, I actually mean that I don’t feel funny today.
I can’t think of a single entertaining thing to say.
It’s possible that a serious over-commitment of time on my part has something to do with it.
Can you hear my theme song playing quietly in the background yet? Oh, yes, there it is, “I’m just a girl who can’t say no . . .”
Of course I can.
I just don’t want to.
I apparently get some kind of sick satisfaction from being overwhelmed with responsibilities every now and then.
Just now and then, mind you, not all the time.
By the time you read this, one of my commitments will be over for another year, and I can begin looking forward to the 3rd annual community Thanksgiving next year. I’m not giving that up, because it’s fun, and because I think it’s important.
We have nearly 50 people signed up to attend this year and are planning on having a very good time, with lots of food, conversation and games.
Some of you already know about my new (ad)venture into the world of business. My friend and I are going to continue Odessa’s tradition of having a quilt shop, and that means a lot of work in the next few weeks to transition from the current ownership. I wish we’d be able to open for Christmas shopping, but it’s just not going to happen. Too much to do, and we want to do it right.
To tell the truth, I’m more than a little nervous about that particular project. I’ve never owned or run a business before, and I suspect that just being bossy isn’t going to be enough. In spite of being nervous, though, I’m pretty darned excited about it. Keep your eyes open for a grand opening celebration!
Then there’s the quilt club Christmas dinner, Christmas Fest and the annual Grange Christmas dinner. And WSU basketball.
And, after the holidays are over, another big project begins.
The first time I got a tour of Old Town Hall, I fell in love with it. I swear I could hear the faint strains of music and laughter coming from the upstairs rooms.
We don’t know what the future holds in store for Old Town Hall, but we’re going to find out.
I am inviting everyone to come to a meeting on Thursday, January 10, in the dining room at Old Town Hall, where we will begin looking at what we can (or can’t) do for our historic building, which should be the gem of downtown.
So, even though I could say no, for the foreseeable future it continues to be full steam ahead!
