INCIDENT LOG

Editor's note: Most items in this section reflect the starting point for response by local police and emergency agencies. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office does not release names of individuals who report possible criminal or suspicious activities to dispatchers or alleged victims for this column.

Dec. 31: A woman told dispatchers that she found three of her horses missing, but three other horses of unknown ownership on property adjacent to SR 231 in the Sprague area.

Deputies checked out an old barn on Stromberger Road near the county line that appeared to have been burglarized. Subsequent investigation determined that the structure was not in use and contained nothing of value.

Deputies responded to a report of possible animal abuse involving cattle on property near Cree and Williams Lake roads in the Sprague area.

An Almira man reported 50 gallons of diesel fuel had been siphoned from a semi-truck parked in the 200 block of South Fourth Street.

Officers responded to the Odessa clinic where a man was treated for an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. An Odessa Police report noted the victim came into the clinic, said he "couldn't take this anymore," walked outside and fired two shots.

Noting her windows were rattling, a Sprague woman told dispatchers about extremely loud fireworks that were set off in the 600 block of West Third.

At Twelfth Street (SR 28) and the railroad tracks, a deputy intercepted four snowmobiles that had been observed traveling on Morgan Street and elsewhere in Davenport, including into several front yards.

No one was injured in a one-vehicle rollover collision was reported on Miles Creston Road west of Hume Road. The car landed on its top and blocked most of the roadway. Damage to a guardrail also was reported. One occupant was placed into custody on charges of driving while under the influence and reckless endangerment.

Jan. 1: East county ambulance personnel assisted a 69-year-old Sprague woman who had blood in her urine, administered CPR to a 53-year-old woman in Harrington, and aided a Davenport man who suffered chest pains and difficulty breathing.

A woman told dispatchers that while being driven on slick streets, her vehicle struck a crosswalk sign by Davenport Elementary School at Seventh and Washington streets.

A Creston man found tires on his pickup truck parked in the 400 block of NE Adams had been punctured by an ice pick. Deputies attempted to determine a relationship with an earlier report that a person had been bitten by a dog in that area.

Deputies investigated the circumstances involved in a possible trespassing incident at property on Harker Canyon Road north of Davenport where snowmobile tracks had been discovered near a cabin and barn.

Trader's Express in Davenport reported receiving an insufficient funds check for $8.83.

Deputies investigated a possible animal neglect matter on property north of Wilbur adjacent to SR 21.

A Wilbur man told dispatchers he may be an identity theft victim after he learned from the state Department of Licensing that someone had purchased a driver's license or identification card in his name.

A Riffe Road resident reported firewood had been cut on his property without permission.

Three mailboxes were smashed, perhaps by a piece of furniture found in the roadway, along Johns Rocky Road near its intersection with Hawk Creek Road.

Deputies and Odessa Police assisted a woman who said she had been locked out of her residence, her car window was smashed and a door handle torn off, apparently in Adams County.

Jan. 2: Someone left six bags of trash in the middle of Bagdad Road about a quarter mile from SR 174.

A deputy let a woman warm up in his patrol car after she had walked about a mile to SR 2 near Main Street Road from her vehicle that got stuck on Leffel Road.

A traffic collision occurred in the Trader's Express parking area in Davenport. Another was reported in the Wilbur school parking lot.

Odessa Police investigated an alleged $600 check alteration reported by Christ Lutheran Church.

Jan. 3: A caller reported suicide-like conversation had followed a couple's breakup in the Reardan area.

A woman reported receiving a phone call threatening that someone would come and take her to jail on federal drug charges unless she obtained a payment card from Wal-Mart. Separately, a Davenport man reported a fraud case involving money orders and the Postal Service.

A contractor's hydro hammer was reported stolen from a work site on Johnson Road near Wilbur.

Deputies investigated several insufficient funds checks totaling about $300 that were issued in Davenport.

A caller told dispatchers that a vehicle had been abandoned in his driveway adjacent to Angels Landing for about three weeks.

A traffic lane on Waukon Road south of Rockdale was blocked by a disabled semi-truck.

A responding deputy couldn't find an individual who was observed walking north on SR 28 from Harrington but not dressed for the weather.

Jan. 4: A lock on a gate at the Sprague emergency center construction site on Old Airport Road was cut, but nothing apparently had been removed from there.

A Sprague caller reported a window in his car had been broken out after hearing a crashing sound between 3 and 4 a.m. in the 200 block of West First Street.

A girl believed to be younger than 6 years of age was found walking on Teel Hill Road near Hart Road and "extremely cold" despite being dressed in snow pants and a jacket.

A caller advised that he escaped injury after his vehicle slid off SR 25 about 11 miles north of Davenport.

Deputies responded to the Telford rest area after a woman placed an emergency call to report she was being kidnapped and, with her fiancé, forced to move to Spokane against her will.

A deputy pulled over a vehicle at Kruger and Rocklyn roads after an item was thrown from it.

A Davenport girl was detained and mental health personnel summoned after a caller reported that a juvenile had attempted suicide by cutting her arm several times and also threatened to consume pills.

Wilbur ambulance personnel assisted a 7-year-old girl who had apparently suffered a seizure.

Jan. 5: Davenport ambulance personnel assisted a 95-year-old woman having difficulty breathing.

A Harrington man described a scam involving an alleged $3 million check, $5,000 cash and a new Mercedes - which could be his if he purchased a $200 Wal-Mart card.

A neighbor became concerned when he saw smoke from a chimney of a vacant residence on West Second in Sprague. A responding deputy determined the source of the smoke was a furnace.

A Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad conductor reported an injured horse on a bridge near Napier Road in the Odessa area. The horse, apparently hit by a train, died before deputies and others could rescue it.

A Sprague area man reported a burglary at his home in the 9000 block of SR 231N and found several items in the yard.

Jan. 6: A car went into the ditch on Telford Road North.

Deputies responding to a woman's call about gunshots heard near the Harrington cemetery discovered it actually was fireworks set off by a Coal Creek Road resident celebrating the Seattle Seahawks' playoff victory.

A vehicle spinning "brodies" at the corner of Ninth and Ross streets in Davenport went into a yard.

A mailbox was damaged in the vicinity of Buck Flats and Zellmer roads near Davenport.

Later assisted by a mental health counselor, deputies responded to the 1000 block of Adams Street in Davenport to assist a young girl who was said to have had a knife, threatening to harm herself.

Civil Judgment

In a Jan. 3 default judgment against Timothy J. and Dena L. Young, of Davenport, petitioner Numerica Credit Union won $4,844.47 - the balance due after a vehicle financed by a promissory note that hadn't been fully repaid had been repossessed, plus court costs.

New Criminal Case

Michael Russell Macielewicz, 45, of Reardan, is charged with first-degree malicious mischief in connection with damage to a power pole and lines that resulted after a vehicle he was driving Dec. 8 crashed into the pole along Old Sunset Highway to the north of the SR 2 scales west of Reardan. The incident left the Town of Reardan without electrical service and cost Avista Utilities about $5,451 to repair. According to a deputy's report included with the charging document in the court record, Macielewicz explained he was going through a divorce and struck the pole at 60 mph in an unsuccessful attempt to take his own life.
