League match, Fairways
The O-H boys golf team played an 18-hole match on Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Fairways Golf Course just west of Spokane. The boys teed off at 2 p.m. with the top six players from each of the eight schools in the NE 1B/2B league participating.
"The weather continues to be problematic for playing and scoring in the game of golf," said coach Sam Read. "It was 45 degrees at tee-off and 41 degrees as players were completing their rounds at about 7 p.m. The wind-chill at that time equaled 33 degrees."
Colfax came out on top with a team score of 476. The O-H Titans were second with 485. Northwest Christian was third at 495, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague fourth at 503, Inchelium fifth at 524, Davenport sixth at 534, Wilbur/Creston seventh at 536 and Cusick, which had no team score due to too few members.
Individual scores for the Titans were Madison Charlton with 85 (just three strokes behind the leader), Nick Nelson 93, Griffey Powell 96, Ricky Hedreen 99, William Mann 112, Bo Gunning 128.
The boys medalist was Hunter Wertze of Colfax with an 82, and the girls medalist was Sadie Garner of NWC with 92.
Non-league at Harrington
The Titans hosted a non-league 18-hole match at the Harrington Golf Course on April 18. Lewis & Clark High School of Spokane brought eight of their junior-varsity players, and LRS also came with six more players.
"The greens had been freshly mowed and were dry and very fast [and] hard for most players to adjust to," said Read. "The LC Tigers made the adjustment a bit faster than O-H and LRS and ended up winning the match."
Team scores were LC JV 492, LRS 503, and OH 521.
"O-H’s Madison Charlton continues to play steady golf no matter what the conditions and was medalist with an 88," said Read.
Other individual scores were Ricky Hedreen 103, Griffey Powell 107, Nick Nelson 111, William Mann 112, Bo Gunning 134, Derek Montgomery 138 and James Smith 139.
