Odessa Golf and RV is the new name of the town’s golf course and recreational vehicle campground, now officially under new ownership. The course manager and groundskeeper is Dillon Jahns, a young man originally from Othello. Some of The Record’s readers may also know his sister Danielle and her husband Joel Hardung who farm between Odessa and Harrington.
Jahns has been a fan of the game of golf since his high school days. Although his most recent work experience has been in farming (helping his father on their Othello area farm), he jumped at the chance to work at a golf course. He says he is excited to be in Odessa and to be a part of the new direction the Odessa course and club will be taking.
A work crew came in Saturday to clean out the clubhouse and do some painting and assessing of what might be required in the way of improvements.
Jax Allen will be handling what for now will be a limited food menu, mostly prepackaged items that can be heated in a microwave oven. Once the determination is made regarding the clubhouse – whether to remodel or rebuild – she will be able to make plans for more extensive food service.
She also said she has already applied for the necessary food-service and liquor licenses from the state of Washington and looks forward to offering club members and visitors a welcoming, friendly atmosphere both on the course and in the clubhouse.
The new operators have kept the club’s old phone number, so anyone wanting more information or to help with ideas and/or volunteer cleanup, painting, etc., can call the number published in the current phone book.
Plans are also under way to promote the use of the RV campground adjacent to the golf course. All together, there are 20 hookups for water, electrical and cable TV. Not all of them were operational under the previous ownership, even though they were present. Allen says they plan to try to attract the traveling public during the summer and encourage them to stay at the RV park, take in a few rounds of golf and then see what else Odessa has to offer.
