"Dig into Reading" theme at summer reading program

Kids can read for fun during the Odessa Public Library’s 2013 Summer Reading Program. Held in cooperation with the Friends of the Odessa Library, "Dig Into Reading," will be held Mondays. The program, which began on June 17, will run for seven weeks. This is an excellent way to help encourage your children to continue reading through the summer months.

Although everyone is welcome to attend, each session is geared toward specific age groups. Ages 2 - 5, with parent or guardian, meets from 10:00 to 10:30 am, and ages 6-10 meet from 10:45 - 11:45 am. During each session, there will be a story time, crafts, and prizes!

Each week has a different theme:

Week 1 - I Dig Gardening

Week 2 - I Dig Big Machines / Dirt Movers

Week 3 - I Dig Dinosaurs

Week 4 - I Dig Getting Dirty / Archeologist Club Coin Making

Week 5 - Animals / Burrowers

Week 6 - I Dig Hidden Treasures / Let’s Rock

Week 7 - Party in the Park

Studies have found that reading for pleasure during the summer months helps students keep up skills and ensures later success in high school, college and beyond. Plan on joining us each Monday throughout the summer as we help you help your child to 'Dig Into Reading'!

Still have questions about the Summer Reading Program? Would you like to volunteer to help with the program this year? Want to know more about the offerings at our local library? Join us at the next Friends of the Odessa Library meeting on Wednesday, June 26, 7 pm at the Odessa Public Library!
