Visitors seek family info in Lamona, Harrington, Odessa

Nancy and Robert Andes of Snohomish visited Lincoln County July 18 to learn about Nancy's ancestors, the Finch family from Lamona. With a few directions form Lamona resident Becky Walter, they made their way to the Lamona Cemetary, called Fairview in some of the early-day records. The graves of Cyrus, August, Mildred, May, and Ruben Finch were located in the northeast portion of the cemetary; Ruben was Nancy's great grandfather.

From Lamona they traveled to Harrington to locate Marge Womach for possible history of the Finch family. After spending an hour at the Harrington Public Library with Womach, they decided that a trip to the Odessa Museum would be interesting.

That evening, accompanied by Odessa Historical Society members Barb Schilimmer and Dr. John Gahringer, the Andes were able to view the Lamona store, see the Lamona telephone board and enjoy a tour of the museum.

The following day, the Andesses visited Paula (Haug) and Bob Kramer at Mohler. Paula's grandparents, Fred and Minnie Moellering, purchased Nancy Andes's grandfather's patended land near Lamona in Sec 26 Twp 22 R 34. The Moellerings had come to the Lamona area in 1907 and were affiliated with the Zion Lutheran Chruch. Photos were shared of the house and outbuildings that once stood on the property. After gaininga good understandingof where the old homesteads were located, the Andeses were off to view off of the quarter section sowned by family members.

Data had been exchanged on the Finch family and the data provided Nancy Andes on the Finch family will be added to the Resource Room of Odessa Historisches Museum.
