Wayne Geissler died August 11, 2013, at his home in Davenport.
He was born October 7, 1918, to Edward and Lena Geissler. He grew up in Odessa and attended school there. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served for over 25 years, being discharged as a Commander in the U.S. Navy.
He farmed a little and drove truck for Huck’s Transfer for many years. He is survived by four children: Dianne (Dale) Cresap, Yvonne (Gary) Eyler, Robert Geissler and Jaunita (Carl) Schluneger; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren; his brother Echo (Ellen) Geissler and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 1962; two sons, Paul in 1963 and Leonard in 1984; two infant boys in 1954 and 1958; and his sister- and brother-in-law, Wardine and Harold Hokanson.
He was an Odessa High School graduate and valedictorian. He was also a Gonzaga graduate. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and Korea, a Purple Heart recipient and a V.F.W. member. He loved to hunt and fish, was a former Davenport school board member and past chairman, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Davenport Gun Club and a safety instructor, a member of the Wild Turkey Federation, the Black-Powder Shooters & Rendezvous and also raised peacocks for over 50 years. His family was the most important thing to him.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 1007 Washington St. in Davenport. Military interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery, Davenport.
