Chamber of Commerce

The Harrington Chamber of Commerce was scheduled to meet Wednesday, September 4, at noon at city hall. With the rapid approach of the Harrington Fall Festival on September 28, and associated activities, the Chamber will continue its discussion of the event. Interested individuals will need to fill out an entry form for the parade. Registration forms are also available for the “Huff N Puff” race.

The webinar presentation scheduled for November 16 will also be on the agenda. It will be an opportunity for local persons to learn from experts regarding entrepreneurial challenges.

Harrington PDA

The Harrington Public Development Authority met August 26 at city hall with president Josh Steward at the helm and seven others in attendance. Topics of discussion included up-coming bus tours, additional shows by Allen Barth of the Studebaker Garage, EWU digital mapping of Harrington’s business district, Online Extended Learning Center, the invitation to James Clarkson of Olympia to speak September 28 on UFO activity, ownership of the Landmark Apartments and “Harrington 2000,” which was a plan for the redevelopment of Harrington’s central business district (a study financed by a grant from the State of Washington Department of Community Trade and Economic Development.

The PDA is encouraging the Harrington Historic Preservation Committee in hosting 15 EWU students and two professors at an event scheduled for October 26, a Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. taking place primarily at Memorial Hall. A potluck dinner will be organized for the guests. “The goal of the event is to have the community and students work together in beginning a conversation and study of Harrington’s economic possibilities now and in the future,” leading to an eventual charette. Building owners in the commercial district are encouraged to attend.
