Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
A wedding at the brewery is among the special festivities planned for fest this year. Krystel Pearce, daughter of Jack and Jolie Pearce, and Kolby Schafer, son of Tom and Lynette Schafer, who met at the Rocky Coulee Brewery three years ago during the Deutches Fest are planning their wedding at the brewery and again, during fest. Fest was chosen as the time for the wedding because its the anniversary of their first meeting and a good time for family and friends to gather.
It will be held on Saturday and is going to be very informal. A lot of customs are being observed, but in their own way. Schafer said his best friend, Malcolm McIver, an ordained minister will be conducting the service. The bride and groom are writing their own vows and plan to keep the ceremony super simple. Schafer is planning to wear flip-flops and shorts and a shirt and Pearce will be wearing a summer dress. The couple had t-shirts made for family and friends which are black, with Rocky Coulee Brewery on the front and a play on the “Something old, something new...” saying on the back. Sandi Smith, a classmate of Schafer’s, is making the wedding cake. Music will be provided by “Staff Infection”, the band of local teachers, Jeff Wehr and Larry Moffett.
The witnesses haven’t been chosen yet, but the couple’s mothers will probably be asked to sign as witnesses. This is a second marriage for the bride and the groom and Schafer’s son Brayton and daughter Adyson will hand them the rings. There will be a run-through on Friday night.
The wedding will be open to the public and Schafer is not worried about too many people coming. His response was “Bring it on!”.
Dejay Buck, Biergarten chair this year, said Tuesday that clean sawdust is being put down on the Biergarten floor and then being watered for most of the day. Some high school kids will be setting up the tables. On Wednesday, the crew will be hanging signage. New offerings in the Biergarten this year are two brands of light beer, Coors and Budweiser. Super-size beer pong will be set up on Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings.
As far as activities for kids, there will be equipment from Bounce House and Lincoln Paintball. The paintball will be set up near the Channeled Scablands Kiosk in the parking lot of Odessa Foods.
Bricks, which are being laid in front of the outdoor stage are still available for purchase and inscription of the buyer’s name. Arrangements can be made through Dale Ramm at Ramm Hardware or Ted Bruya at Odessa Drug.
The updated fest schedule is available in sunflower yellow in the information booth and all downtown businesses.
A 911 Memorial will be available for viewing.
John Ossman has set up some of his “functional, hand-made, historical western works of art” for sale in the old building west of Wheatland Bank.
Michelle Melgren’s Any Occasion Banquet Hall will host eight vendors and, in addition, offer many kinds of snack foods such as lattes, ice-cream and pizza.
