Last week's Halloween activities appeared to provide fun for young and old in the communities of Odessa and Harrington.
Both towns had Halloween carnivals that allowed kids to be in out of the cold, participate in games and win prizes. The Halloween carnival in Harrington took place on Monday, October 28, sponsored by the Harrington PTA, and had great success with a good turnout, according to Marge Womach of Harrington. The Odessa carnival was sponsored by the FFA chapter of Odessa High School (see separate article on the event by FFA advisor Erica Whitmore on page 5).
On the day itself, October 31, participation ranged from non-existant to "way out there," as some business people and residents chose to dress up for the occasion and others did not. The Harrington school staff got into the fun spirit of the holiday by dressing up as minions from the recent popular movies, Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2.
Your editor had to be out of town the last two days of last week, so we weren't here for local activities. We hear from reliable sources, however, that The Record's newest employee, Barbara Greenwalt, dressed up as a fortune teller and decorated the office for the day. You will hear more about her next week when we will introduce her to the community in an article.
We visited a community college on the west side of the state where the college kids certainly had fun with the dress-up aspect of Halloween.
