SEPTEMBER

The Cattle Producers of Washington held a grand opening for the new meat processing plant. It was held at the Odessa Industrial Park. The Livestock Processors Cooperative Association (LPCA) is processing cattle, pigs, goats and sheep.

Maureen Sheldon (Mo) was hired as the new hospital administrator.

The town council debated how to comply with the law legalizing marijuana use and sales.

Chris Costlow, Mark Worley and Johnny Walter resued two men in a car crash near Othello early in the morning on their way to fishing.

An aqua-ammonia leak at Crop Production Services in Harrington caused four people to be taken to hospitals in Davenport and Seattle.

A tornado caused extensive damage to Zach Schafer’s farm buildings and house. Other farmers west of Odessa also sustained some damage to their buildings and a row of new steel telephone poles, 12 feet in circumference, was also blown down.

The First Presbyterian Church in Marlin closed its doors 105 years after its first service.

Miss Odessa, Chelsea Fisher and princesses Alexa Boss, Kayla Minaker and Kimberly Nelson greeted visitors from the Odessa float in the Deutsches Fest 2013 parade. The general consensus was that the crowds were down a bit last year.

OCTOBER

Experience Quilts!, the local quilt shop, took part in the 12th annual North Central Washington Quilt “Shop Hop,” with probably 140 “hoppers” coming through town to participate in the event.

Women’s Health Night, an annual event to promote women’s health, was held for the 12th time with the theme “An Evening in Paris.”

Darren Summers (formerly of KD Meats) was hired as the plant manager of Livestock Producers Cooperative Association meat-processing plant at the Odessa Industrial Park.

Washington state senator, Janea Holmquist Newbry, gave a presentation to the Odessa Chamber of Commerce about issues pertaining to commerce and labor.

The Odessa-Harrington Athletic Booster Club steak dinner and auction raised about $20,000 from supporters from both towns.

Odessa-Harrington homecoming royalty, introduced at the football game, were King Jacob DeWulf, Queen Hannah Schmidt, Prince Trevor King, Princess Jenna Shafer, Prince Billy Bragg, Princess Jordyn Tanke, Queen Debra Armstrong and King Madison Charlton.
