Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!
Tuesday evening, Jenna Shafer, a junior at Odessa High School, was selected by a panel of judges to be Miss Odessa for 2014. Her princesses will be Katelyn Worley and Daviane Minaker, both also juniors.
Each of the girls presented an essay telling why she would like to represent the town of Odessa. Each was also interviewed separately by the panel of judges. The event was held in the fellowship hall of Christ Lutheran Church.
The girls will represent the Town of Odessa by riding the Odessa community float at parades in other towns throughout the coming spring, summer and fall. Their outreach efforts help ensure that Odessa's Deutsches Fest parade in September is well attended by floats and royalty from other communities.
Jenna Shafer is the daughter of Chris and Ryan Shafer, Katelyn Worley is the daughter of Scotty Bacon and Mark Worley and Daviane is the daughter of the late David Minaker and grandaughter of Marilyn Rains, all of Odessa.
The community float will have a new travel trailer to take it to events this year. The Odessa Chamber of Commerce and the Odessa Trading Company have joined forces to purchase a used goose-neck trailer large enough to transport the float. The trailer was found listed on E-Bay and was located on the west side of the Cascades. The Chamber will soon be asking other businesses to purchase advertising space on the sides of the trailer to help defray the travel expenses of Odessa's royalty.
