Grief

I really do not know how people go through grief without the Lord.

People always say there are many stages of grief and there are. It depends on what kind of day I’m having as to which stage I’m going through. The pain only tells me the depth of love that Tom and I had for each other.

Grief hits me without a warning sometimes – for example, while shopping at Walmart, I broke down and sobbed. Some stranger came up to me and gave me a hug and walked away. That blessed me.

It is hard to say the words, “I’m a widow,” but I am, and my children no longer have a father. We look back and say how blessed we were to have had Tom in our lives.

Two of my dearest friends lost their husbands just recently. They called me and asked, “How do you get through this?” You don’t, but with the Lord, you can.

People in Odessa have been very kind to me; I want to say thanks. Someone is always asking how I’m doing. “Only with the Lord, friends, and prayer.”

I’ll always cherish my life with Tom, and think about how his love changed my life and made me a better person. My young sons will carry on his legacy.

Tom put something in our children that no man can take away, Tom’s love and the love of God.
