Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!

6th-grade Conservation Day

From tree identification, to knowledge about the weather, educating our youth about the earth’s natural resources is important.

On May 13, the Lincoln County Conservation District held their annual Sixth-Grade Conservation Day at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.

This is a half-day event where students from schools in Lincoln County learn about various conservation efforts. At total 175 sixth-grade students from Davenport, Harrington, Lamont, Odessa, Reardan and Wilbur rotated through nine stations, where nine organizations explained the benefits of their conservation practices. These organizations included, Inland Power and Light, Airway Heights Fire Department, Lincoln County Noxious Weed Board, Department of Natural Resources, Department of Fish and Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management, Inland Empire Beekeeping Association, National Weather Service, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

When the event commenced, students, teachers, and instructors were given ice-cold bottled water donated by the Davenport Safeway and Davenport Family Foods. The Lincoln County Fairgrounds provided the use of its buildings, and other organizations also helped.
