July 4 celebrated with BBQ, swims, fireworks

The July 4 barbecue at Reiman Park, put on by the Odessa Volunteer Fire Department, was very well attended last Friday. Firemen and their family members served up pulled-pork sandwiches, beans, potato salad, watermelon, snack chips and beverages. Afterward, folks sat in the shade of the park’s trees and visited in the warm afternoon breeze.

The pool was open for those wanting a refreshing dip in the water.

Toward evening, the fireworks started, as residents used their yards and streets as launching points. The fireworks last until about 11 p.m., and then things quieted down for the night.

Police chief Helen Coubra reported no major incidents, just a couple of calls about party-goers being rowdy or leaving messes behind.
