Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!

Steve Echenberger

Steve Eichenberger, born Aug. 1, 1955, went to meet the Lord on June 17, 2014. He fought a courageous battle against his cancers. Steve moved from the midwest to Idaho in 1968. Upon graduation from college, he was self-employed in construction and the alarm industries. He continued to grow his alarm company, Mountain States Security Systems, until his passing.

Steve spent the last 18 years with the love of his life, Janet Winter-Woodburn. Their life together included big game hunting, fishing, and scuba diving at Maui. Steve, Jan, and her dad, Art, spent many days camping at Owyhee Reservoir, the Redwoods on the California coast, and at their favorite hunting spot, the Weiser River Canyon. Steve also spent many hours steelhead fishing with Art and Doug on the Clearwater and Salmon Rivers. He also enjoyed vacations with Art and Dorothy to Canada, northern Washington, and touring Colorado. Steve was surrounded in life by numerous friends, with whom he enjoyed ground squirrel hunting and trap-shooting. He was the first person to run a computerized program for score-keeping in Idaho for competitive trap shooting. Steve loved the score keeping with his friends as much as he did the shooting.

He traveled to various state shoots, including the Idaho Sate ATA and PITA shoots. Steve, along with Tim Hill cashiered the Camas Prairie Handicap for 18 years at both Lewiston and Walla Walla. He was also a life member of the Boise Gun Club, the Amateur Trapshooting Association and EE DA How Long Rifles at Black Creek, where he spent numerous hours shooting and working up loads for his rifles.

Steve leaves behind his fiance’ Janet, Art and Doug Winter and families, his sister Nancy and family and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Betty, Art’s wife Dorothy and Janet’s daughter Tana. His life was celebrated at Zion Lutheran Church in Nampa, Idaho with burial following at Calwell, Idaho. Even to the end, Steve’s prayer remained, “Thy will be done.”
