Heritage Church is gearing up for a mission trip to San Felipe, Mexico to join former Odessa resident John Gilbert and his 99+1 Ministries organization next year on November 7 - 14, 2015.
One of the projects the Odessa church will participate in involves working with the Christian Women’s Rehab Program that has recently been started up. The program currently rents the buildings it uses. The hope is that some land will have been acquired by the time church members arrive, so the volunteers will be able to build a housing facility for the residents. In addition, the church will spend time working with one of the orphanages (Casa de Fe), which may also need some construction assistance, as well as help in daily care and attention given to the children there.
One of the fundraisers Heritage Church is looking forward to will be a Yard Sale to be held during Deutsches Fest on Friday and Saturday of fest. First, Heritage would ask anyone wanting to donate items for the sale to bring them to the church beginning Tuesday, September 16. Donations will be accepted through Friday, September 19.
Heritage is also planning a Silent Auction and Taco Feed to be held in October. Those with items to donate for the silent auction, are asked to please contact Michelle Melgren at 982-2442. There will also be a raffle for a quilt made by Sherie Heimbigner.
Information packets, including an application to go on the trip, will be available the week after Fest. The applications will be due in December, as ample time for planning transportation and logistics are needed. Applications received after December will be placed in a standby situation. If travel arrangements can be found to fit in with the itinerary already planned, those people would then be able to join the group as well.
