Serving Lincoln County for more than a century!

Health night packs house

The basement of Heritage Church was full nearly to bursting with women who came to hear advice on healthy living and to enjoy a meal catered by the Odessa High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America. Members of the health care community were out in force to provide information and hand out free literature and gifts to those who attended. As in the past, blood pressure checks were provided in a separate room.

Door prizes included gift baskets, items donated by community members and gift cards worth up to $50. Prizes were drawn at various different times throughout the evening.

The dinner consisted of roast pork with a fruit-based sauce, fire-roasted vegetables, rolls and a selection of salads. Dessert was also provided.

Lincoln County Health Department employee and visiting school nurse at the Odessa School District Jolene Erickson was once again the mistress of ceremonies. With plenty of humor and good cheer, she kept the proceedings moving along. Medical services provider Dr. Linda Powell also addressed the group, as did Odessa Clinic manager Barb Schlimmer.

After the dinner, the FBLA students and their parents handled the cleanup duties, while the attendees went home to look at their free gifts and reflect on what they had learned at the meeting.
