Titans lose crossover game, but going to state as 2nd seed

Odessa-Harrington, the District 7, #2 seed, will play Garfield-Palouse, the District 9, #3 seed, at 7 p.m. at Finney Field in Odessa in the first round of the 1B state football playoffs. A total of 16 teams qualified for the tournament, with games being played each Friday leading up to the Gridiron Classic on December 4/5, 2014.

Against Republic Friday, November 7, the Titans kept pace with the Tigers during the first quarter but lost steam after that.

The Titans managed the first score plus two-point conversion. as Dakota Largent caught a pass from quarterback Colton Hunt and completed a 27-yard play.John DeWulf ran the ball for two more.

Republic responded with an 80-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and then added two more extra points.

In the second quarter, the Tigers scored on a long 85-yard pass play and successful two-point conversion.

Hunt connected with Largent again on a 12-yard pass play, but the follow-up pass attempt was not successfull, leaving the Titans with a total of 14 first-half points. They would not score again.

Republic would score seven more times in the game, while shutting out the Titans.

Injuries to many of the Titan starters were a major factor in this game. Starting quarterback Carsen Weber’s broken hand will keep him out of action. Sam Schafer pulled a hamstring but should be back on the field this Friday. Steven Braun dislocated a shoulder and Trevor King has a bulging disk. Caleb Behrens also has a broken hand. Patrick Valverde has injured a knee. Sage Elder hurt his shoulder but should also return to play Friday. Gaven Elder suffered a possible concussion, and his ability to play Friday has not yet been determined. Wyatt Haase sprained an ankle but will likely be ready by Friday.
