Santa and bazaars downtown kick off holiday preparations

Saturday morning, with great anticipation a small crowd waited at the Harrington Opera House lobby for the sixth annual pre-Christmas visit of Santa, whose arrival was heralded by the sirens of the fire truck that provided transportation while Santa's reindeer were feeding at the wide spot on Crab Creek near Harrington. From 10 a.m. to noon, twenty-two sittings for photos occurred with an elf-like lady in a grand vintage-style dress dispensing the bags of candy treats prepared by the Harrington Chamber. Forty-seven young and young-at-heart visited with Santa, taking their place to whisper their Christmas wishes.

Christmas Rummage

Opening at 9 a.m. the Christmas Rummage event for the Elevator Fund continued until 3 p.m. with a rather perpetual flow of lookers and donors, with the main theme of the event being Christmas decorations, vintage and new. Large items and furniture were available on request in the Rummage Room, but the main items were displayed in the heated Art Room. Approximately $250 was added to the Elevator Fund from Saturday's sale.

Rusty Lark Winter Bazaar

Amy Foley found and organized vendors for the Memorial Hall who were open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in lieu of Harrington's annual Hometown Christmas Bazaar. A large amount of goods were offered at the sale including handmade benches, furniture and other hand-crafted items. One buyer stated "the hall looked impressive with a nice selection of quality items reasonably priced". Two types of chili were served and a ham and potato soup that caused some buyers to pass through the line twice. The FFA poinsettias were gorgeous and stood about 18 inches in height. For the Saturday activities in Harrington, Amy's vendors were the last to close and seemed to consider the event very successful.
