With the assistance of a Big Bend Community College (BBCC) Title V grant and staff services from an organization called Washington Campus Compact, the Odessa Community Knowledge Center is now open to the public for basic computer literacy classes.
The instructor, Ed Lyles, is teaching about the parts of a computer, how to use a keyboard, email, the internet and how to use some software programs.
Lyles grew up in Warden, is a Washington Campus Compact AmeriCorps/VISTA member, and is providing assistance in the classes. He will work closely with BBCC outreach staff and the Odessa community to determine other helpful training sessions.
This course has seven sessions and is almost completed, but from Wednesday, January 7, at 4 p.m. the course will begin again. The next session will be taught by Odessa high school Honor Society members and be coordinated through business teacher, Terri King. Lyles will still be available for consultation.
Classes are free and everyone is welcome. For more details or to sign up and join a class, call 509-982-2903.
